Double Page Spread Textual Analysis

Double Page Spread Textual Analysis

This Double Page Spread is about Florence from Florence and The Machine, the main image is a picture of her sitting on the American Flag looking directly into the camera which connects her and the audience to the Article and Main Image. This is in Q Magazine and the pictures regularly used in their magazines tend to be very creative, the image crosses the centre line connecting the pages together creating a double page spread. Their is an introduction to the article above the main text but the introductions text is bigger than the main text which attracts more of the readers attention compared to the main text, it clearly states that the article is about Florence Welch and not the full band of Florence and The Machine. The font used in the main text is Sans Serif, mainly because of the simplicity of it and how easy it is to read and interpret. The drop capital is in a more sophisticated font allowing the reader conations of this being for a more mature audience. The main text is in 3 columns which is normal for many double page spread articles.

The grey text behind Florence gives the reader the idea of what this is about but does not distract them from the main image, Again we see how the large text crosses the pages bringing in the feel of a double page spread. The way the main image is took gives the impression that she is magazine confident and a dominant female. Florence's red hair and the red on the flag gives conations of love which contradicts the title on the double page spread. The colours and pictures are also more mature which also gives the target audience of a mature audience.

Age Representation Task

This shreddies advert, gives a negative representation of elderly people because it shows that they sit there knitting all day and gossiping, which is a stereotypical view, this is created by showing them in a factory sitting down knitting things that look like cereal. It focuses on the knitting stereotype of old people. the lighting is mainly low key in the advert which creates a dull and boring effect, which is another stereotype of elderly people. the mise-en-scene of the advert mainly shows elderly women with grey hair and a perm, again emphasising the stereotype of elderly people. The shots in this advert mostly contain close up shots which could emphasis the poor sight of the elderly.
